Your skin and your practice have more in common than you think
If yoga is the practice, Ayurveda is the lifestyle that supports it.
The word Ayurveda translates to “the science of life.”
At its core, the foundation is balance. There are four key components that are always interacting:
Doshas (energies) — your unique constitution
Agni (digestive fire) — how well you process food and experience
Malas (waste) — how efficiently you eliminate
Dhatus (tissues) — the building blocks of your body
When these are in harmony, things tend to feel… steady. When they’re not, the body usually lets you know.
At this point, you’ve probably seen some version of “I eat my skincare.”
And honestly? I love that idea. What you put into your body shows up everywhere — including your skin.
But if we take a step between eating it and buying it in a bottle, there’s something really beautiful about using simple, natural ingredients directly.
I’ll be honest — I still appreciate a good (slightly overpriced) skincare rejuvenation. But after spending time in India, my perspective shifted a bit. Ever heard of a fruit facial?
Here are a few simple recipes I’ve been loving! Nothing complicated, just things you likely already have at home:
For glow / brightening
Mash ripe banana with 1 tsp honey + a pinch of turmeric.
Apply for 15–20 minutes, then rinse.
For hydration
Blend banana with 1 tbsp raw honey + 1 tbsp yogurt (or curd).
Great for dry skin.
For dry or dull skin
Mix a small pinch of turmeric with ghee or castor oil and apply lightly.
For complexion support
Soaked fenugreek seeds (blended into a paste) as a mask
Milk with a pinch of nutmeg
A few strands of saffron added into lotion or oil
And as always, keep it simple. You don't need to do everything. Pick one ritual and build from there.
Let me know what you end up trying!
